...... BECAUSE IT'S FUN!! ......

Because it's FUN! That totally sums up this project. I've very well aware my art isn't perfect. I am aware my coding isn't perfect either. So if you have a comment about the project, keep it at "constructive critism" (i.e things that may help). I'm only doing this for FUN. I work for nobody, and am not selling the thing. I just hope to someday complete this, and it' will be something you enjoy.

Title screen

Still not finished with this.. but mostly it is. For the fire beneth the title.. there is 12 animation frames in the flames. This makes it animate super smooth. The colored  "Chinese characters" also have 12 frames each, moving in opposite directions. The "Press Enter" blinks. You'd have to see it, but it's pretty cool. Kinda gives it a psychedelic look. It starts, and music plays. I will animate the top area too.. but, nt sure what to do. Flashing stars? IDK.. may change it altogether. The lower left dragon talking, will have different characters talking there.

Options screen / Items screen

If you look at the characters, you'll see some are "super villian" looking (my game enemies) and some "anime style" real people (my good guys). I may take flack for mixing styles.. but it seems to fit my whole idea best. I won't reveal the story line yet, as I am still refining it. I will say the bad guys are mutated characters.. and will be whatever crazy thing I can think to draw.. lol. The good guys will look more like people with a "mild" anime style. I won't draw anything real "hard core" anime.. as they need to mix. I also will have talking animals on the good people side.

KLAXXZ 1.0

About

"Klaxxz" is a RPG Videogame being developed by Gary V. Ambrose II.  It is "very" early in development. Right now, the game engine is complete (which I released for others to use also), and "Klaxxz Specific code has been added to the engine for my personal use. I am now at the point, I can start really work on creating the "game" art. I will post pics as I go along. Just remember, these are early pictures. If I were doing this for a "comercial" venture, or worked for a game company there is no way I would show art in it's earliest form. As it is, I am just here having fun.. and documenting the process along the way.

Anything you see here is subject to change at "any time, or any moment".  I can say for a fact, the character art will. I still need practice in this area. I think I am doing alright with the basic character art.. but when it comes to shading, and light sourcing I have alot to learn. I bought a bunch of books though. I am studying it.  Actually, I am an artist by trade. A "cut coin artist" http://www.handcutcoins.net I have made custom work for over 200,000 people. That's been my living over 25 years. It's "art", but a totally different thing. I am trying to apply what I know there, to this project. With the "coin art" everything I do is "2D".. but REALLY 2D.. lol. No shading in coins, no light. The layout is the same however.

Anyway.. this will be a LONG TERM project. Don't expect it finished soon. I am doing everything.. the art, building the game engine, the documentation.. everything. I'll do the best I can.. hopefully someday it's something you like.

Progress

It's actually going very well. The scrolling is super smooth, and I have large maps. Although I have made a bunch of maps.. I am concentrating on the first level really. I have code in place.. so I can animate any (or all) tiles if I choose with almost no effort (other then drawing the tiles). Art, still getting used to it.. lol. It's getting better all the time, and I keep refining. The main character and the "turtle mascot" are both fully animated and can move in all 8 directions. I can also adjust the speed of the character (walking movement) at a button press, and also the game map scroll. As of this writing, I have 40 characters already placed in the game. There are quite a bit of images that load in the game. Putting as many as I can in RAM for speed. I set it up this way. I don't use a datafile for sprites. It's more coding here, but it makes it easier to alter the art when I choose. I just bring the art up in "Gimp".. alter.. and automatic in the game. Areas like going into a house.. I load and destroy those graphics when you enter. Not that many in those.. so it doesn't slow anything. I now have the "text" coded in..  so any character in the game.. it will load a textfile, and display the character talking. I plan to gave alot of dialog at the bottom where characters are talking. If you look at the pics below.. picture people in your group constantly talking to eachother.

For those who said my "game engine" looked difficult.. or wouldn't work. I can promise they are wrong. I have full sound.. many images now (over 900 if you count tiles) and at the most graphically intense place, it only uses 5% of the 1GB ram in this system (Running at 45-55 FPS). Alot more really is done. And adding anything at this point, is more a matter of drawing then coding. I made the game engine with that in mind. Too bad not many will ever try it... because if they really understood my total concept, they'd see it is very efficient actually.

Please bear in mind as you view this site, and the information within. I am not a "professional programmer". I have spent many years programming, and have made many projects.. but this one is "by far" the biggest thing I have ever attempted. This is a learning process for me, as well as you. Not all code I give, ideas, or even tools will be perfect. I will do my best on anything I post, and refine it as necessary. Just remember anything you use here, is at your own risk.

Character pics / Level pic

I keep refining art, and adding elements in. Like the boats in this harbor. Stats, item screens, editor (for both game, or game engine use) can be turned on or off at a button press.

HELP!

I would "Really really" like some help with this project (The KLAXXZ GAME). I can't pay, but you would have the satisfaction of knowing you helped create something "super cool". I need graphic artists, coders, even people to just alter images. Anything really. The game will be freeware, but you can promote any project you like on the site. Would even look good on a resume I would think.
